My Poor Little Nose

They Call Me NP.

No problem?

Nurse practitioner?

Nose Polyp? Yep. Definitely nose polyp.

So .. I have had sinus issues for a really long time, and I just figured it was terrible luck. It started last fall - and I kept getting terrible sore throats, I even saw a doctor and it was brushed off as mouth breathing. However, she did recommend a nasal spray, because my one nose passage thing was a bit swollen, so I tried that and not much helped.

But it went in and out and whatever, I pretty much got used to it and advil cold and sinus because my best friends. I got used to having a constant headache and when it got really bad I did saline nose rinses, or used my nasal sprays.

I complain a lot about my health to my family, and its ALWAYS nothing, my step DAD is a doctor and he always brushes off everything. With good reason, of course, because its always nothing.

But a few weeks ago it got so bad my face hurt to the touch, I was getting bloody noses and I couldn't breathe out of one nostril..... Soooo I brought the little nose telescope home and had my sister look at it. She is no expert but I figured she would be able to tell if it looked weird. and I got an OMG EW reaction...... so I took the telescope to my father, the doctor. And I expected him to brush it off, and it almost sounded like he did, but he was like "oh, yep, you have a nose polyp. we will refer you to an ent. you'll probably get it taken out"

The end.

LOL UH?

So yeah, over the past WHO KNOWS HOW LONG this foreign object has been growing in my nose. Swelling up and making my face hurt. And I just brushed it off because I am so used to it being nothing. I am still waiting to know what comes next, and I'm not scared or anything... but its just like, SERIOUSLY? A NOSE POLYP?

How gross am I?

I looked it up and its about 4 times more common in men...... over 40.

I am 22 and a girl. PERFECT.

So yeah, if you want to be like my "hilarious" mom and sister, feel free to call me NP.

My Big Brother BIO

For the application for big brother canada, you had to write a bio, so I thought I would share mine since a few people have asked. It could only be 70 words - so these 70 words had to make an impact. I think I dun pretty good there bud! Take a peek!

"Impossibly magnetic. Outspoken. Tall. University of Guelph Alumni. Tattooed. Sassy.

Just your average blonde, that is so not average. Trying to make the world a happier place, through positivity and complete ridiculousness. My best friend in the entire world, other than my little sister, is my son - who is a dog. I am awesome.

You're going to hate me unless you love me. And you're going to love me."

Daily LOL: Celebrity Name Puns

overwhelmed

Sometimes life just feels overwhelming and I never quite understand why.

It’s not the kind of sadness to where you cry all the time, but more of like the sadness that overwhelms your entire body.

Leaving you heart aching and your stomach empty.

Making you feel weak and tired.

And yet,

You can’t even sleep cause the sadness is in your dreams too.

It’s almost a sadness you can’t escape.

And I just can't understand it.

How to Change the World, in a Kelsey Kinda Way

Honestly, positivity spreads quicker than the swine flu - but in a waaaaaay less deadly and scary way. And I truly believe that we can change the world, one "ridiculous" comment at a time.

Yesterday it REALLY hit me what it does to people when you're positive for no reason. It takes them by surprise. Yesterday, the lab guy that travels from London to Chatham, making stops at doctors offices along the way, stopped by my desk to pick up samples and gave the classic "how are you today?" Instead of giving him what he expected to hear, I went:

"you know what, I am fabulous - thanks!"

And he was seriously like taken aback. I swear he even took a step backwards, and said "honestly, that is the first time I have ever heard someone say that! wow!" And I was like "Ohhhh stop" and helped to get the samples. And as we handed him the bag I was like "okay have a good day!" and instead of hearing what I was expecting ("thanks") he replied:

"No, I am going to have a FABULOUS day!" And I swear he walked away with a bigger smile than he came in with.

I didn't really realize the impact positivity makes on people's lives, the people who don't get enough positivity, it changes them (even if just for a few hours) and they begin to spread the fabulousness.

I don't know. I just find it amazing in it's simplicity.

And to top it off, today I called my mom and asked how she was and she went "Really good!" when I asked why she simply replied "well, why not?"

I learned from the best.

“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence”

Kelsey Probz

Those of you who know me, know that I am endearingly klutzy/blonde. I spill on myself at least ONCE a day, but that is child's play compared to what happened to me this morning. And like, it's pretty clear HOW it could have happened but the way it happened to me is just so "Kelsey" and I think its pretty funny!

So last night I asked my sister if she thought our mom would let me use her PUMA shoes for work (currently I wear a pair of sk8er shoes and they are huge and clunky and I always end up taking them off and working in socks).

But Brooke said that I could use her shoes, that looked JUST like our moms, but weren't PUMA brand. I was STOKED.

So this morning, as I was heading out the door I went into the garage and found her shoes and slipped them on halfway and was out the door. I sat in the car and put them on fully and drove to Ridgetown.

So I get to work and I was sitting at my computer when I realized I had to tell my coworker about my new shoes because she always laughs at me for being shoeless... So I was like

"HEY! LOOK AT MY NEW SHOES! Brooke is letting me use hers!"

*STICKS SHOES OUT FROM UNDER DESK*

*LOOKS DOWN AT FEET*

*FROWNS*

*LOOKS UP*

*LOOKS DOWN*

"These aren't even the same shoes........"

Andddd we die laughing. I mean, to my credit they DO look similar....

JONAS FEVER! I'm Burnin Up.

Hey, remember when I was THIS obsessed with the Jonas Brothers?

LOOKS LIKE I STILL AM!

Thursday, October 11th 2012 - Me and two of my very best friends will be flying to NYC. Not just because, but BECAUSE we will be seeing the Jonas Brothers live in concert for the first time since their last tour. (OVER 2 YEARS AGO UGH).

But we will not just be seeing our boys. We will be seeing them practice in soundcheck. We will get a backstage tour. We will get a signed posted and signed guitar, and, oh, YOU KNOW - MEETING THE JONAS BROTHERS!!!!!!!!

Meeting. The. Jonas. Brothers.

The boys that we have been OBSESSED with. The boys that brought us 3 girls from 3 different worlds together. The boys who have made us laugh and who have made us cry. My favourite people in the world. The people that I have literally DREAMED about meeting and planned out every second with for the past 4 or so years. I am so thankful. I am embarrassed that I got so emotional over the ticket sales. But this is MY trip. This is what I am doing for myself as a graduation gift. Some people choose to travel Europe, or Canada... but not me, I choose to go on a 2 day vacation to NYC and MEET the Jonas Brothers. So there was a lot of emotion going into it.

I wish all my girls could come. I really do. But I think good things are in the future for everyone. Because good things come to those who wait.

peace & love

a letter to each of you

I found this post on twitter, one of my favourite comedians actually RT'd her and said AMEN and so I decided to have a look. I had been seeing things all over twitter about "legitimate rape" and just ignored it because I only had my blackberry and lord knows internet browsing ain't so good on them.

But I finally saw thus and then looked into it more and became really upset, and also really inspired. It is people like this girl, Grace, who will change the world. To speak out about this topic is so incredibly hard and personally I have a hard time even posting this. But the truth is, nothing gets done and things won't change if I just sit around.

So I hope you all take the short amount of time needed to read this.

"a letter to each of you.

I’m sure you’ve seen it in the news today. The headlines are everywhere and my Twitter feed is decorated with rants from various people I follow: a man running for senate named Todd Akin used the term “legitimate rape” when asked about abortion legality. He has also used a modifier in the past, stating the phrase “forcible rape”. It is clear that the reality of “rape is rape” is lost on him.

Stepping away from the abortion debate, I wanted to address this because I know how upsetting it was to read that headline at first. My heart sunk. For ten seconds, I felt a mixture of anger and sadness and frustration, as if all of the work I put into this topic just continues to fade into the ignorance of others. It’s easy to settle into the feeling of never getting anywhere if you let yourself stay that way. But I’m not like that, and I don’t want anyone else to feel that way either. Maybe I’m hopelessly optimistic. But from my experience, that’s the only way I know how to try to change the world.

So this letter is for you, whoever you are. The survivor. The sister or brother or mother or father or friend of a survivor. The activist. The person who tirelessly answers the sexual assault hotline. The shelter volunteer. The police officer, the lawyer, the judge. The person who simply feels passionate about this. Although it may seem like the opposite, Mr. Akin’s words aren’t actually setting us back. In fact, with each ignorant comment made by someone, and each time it gets into the media outlets, the topic of rape and sexual assault is becoming less and less of a taboo. For every person like Mr. Akin who says something along those lines, there are thousands - millions - of others crying in outrage. And there are even more who are finally realizing the gravity of the issue.

We are getting there. The silence is ending. Please don’t lose hope.

With love, gratitude, and optimism,

Grace"

give some thanks

We all know how awesome our friends are... But I really and truly believe that it is important we REMIND them how much they mean to us.

If you think about life and how insecure you get from time to time, then you should be able to deduce that your friends probably feel the same way sometimes.. So why not just give them a reason to feel better, and tell them how amazing they are.

I just had THE BEST weekend with some of my best friends.

Thinking about all the stupid funny things that happened makes me smile from my inside out. And when I say "stupid" I just mean that it is stuff that to the outsider wouldn't be funny, at all. But to us, it's hilarious - because we have all built up relationships with each other over the past years and we know each other so well that everything we share is like a giant inside joke now.

This morning, when laying around and talking about random stuff - we all laughed so much. Our faces HURT from laughing. And we talked about real things, not just "stupid" things, and ugh it was just so amazing. And it makes me SO happy and feel so truly complete that I have friends like that.

So friends, all friends, THANK YOU. For everything. I can't imagine life without ANY of you - and I will do all I can to make that clear to you all. You all mean the world to me and I hope I make it clear that you do.

Thanks for the laughs and the shoulders and the company.

WE are all so lucky.

Saturday Special: MOM: Life Tips

Life tips

Hi Everyone – I’m Kelsey’s Mom – Lynn – the mom that doesn’t act like a mom – the mom who looks more like Kelsey’s sister than mother (which tickles me ‘cause Kelsey is gorgeous – therefore by association I too am gorgeous – and edgy – and sassy!!)

This really isn’t my first time on Kelsey’s blog – believe it or not – I ghosted a couple of times – once with her permission – once without. (don’t leave stuff open on your parent’s computer – it’s just an open invitation). I am thankful to you guys who read her blog – she works very hard on it and is very mindful of her audience. I think it has great diversity. Funny – heartfelt – thought provoking – inspiring. Her Dad and I are so amazed by her blog and so very proud of what she writes. Kelsey has worked very hard thru her life to become a better person. Her blog reflects her journey, her growth and her desire to help others grow in their life adventure.

And that’s what I’m going to talk about – the life adventure. Life isn’t easy – life is hard. Everything and everyone you meet present you with an opportunity to learn something – it’s either something that you say – that was really good – I’m going to do that or be that – or the opposite – wow – that was mean, or rude or hateful – I will not ever be like that or do that.

Everyone goes thru the same stuff. I’m going to give you a list of thoughts that I have given to our 4 children as they left to go to University. Read and embrace these thoughts – you’ll be a better person too.
As you leave home to continue your education, keep in mind the following:

1. First Impressions Matter.

Understand that it is only your family who are stuck with you. Most people you meet won’t give you the time to discover the “REAL” you. Give them a reason to.

2. Manners are Always in Style. No more need be said.

3. Go to every single class. Do your homework promptly. You’ll be amazed at how easy school is when you keep up. When you are done – join in. Make new friends. Join intramural teams. Most adults who attended post secondary will tell you that this was one of the greatest times of their lives – make it memorable for you.

4. Unsure?? Ask that very basic question – What would be the advice Mom or Dad would give me in this situation. You’ll be amazed at what you come up with. You’ll feel better if you avoid doing those things that you know would embarrass or shame your family.

5. Opportunity for education or work abroad – or far from home?

Guess what? This is the time to live life and experience it. I lived many years without you. I’ll miss you – but – I’m good with it. This is your time to become independent. And, if you need me, there is so place on this Earth that I can’t get to in 24 hours or less.

6. If you need help – ASK.

7. A baby is a beautiful thing at the RIGHT TIME.

This is NOT THE TIME!!

8. Girls – when the boys on your residence floor go to the Campus Lounge (for e.g.) for beer and wings – don’t be hurt that the boys don’t ask you to come. It’s something boys just don’t think to do. Just go. You’ll be glad you did. In the alternative – Boys – girls like to be asked. Though this is not your nature to think to ask – it is not girls’ nature to just go. Meet half way!

9. We’ve already established our monetary relationship.

Stick to the agreed upon budget and plan. I am not your personal banker!

10. If you don’t want to get caught doing it – DUH – don’t do it.

11. Call just once in a while just to say hi!! I want to know you’re ok!

Remember always – I believe in you. You can do it. I know of no one who died from hard work (and this I confirmed with my spouse – the doctor – he has never seen a death certificate issued stating the cause of death to be hard work!!).
Keep the balance. Be the best you can. I love you. Mom.

And....if you have other great tips for the list – let Kelsey know – we’re open to change!

Aching For The Past.

Sometimes it really bothers me how fast time goes by. How it can feel like a month when really it has been a year - and yet, in that "month" of a year so much can happen...
and you can't do anything to stop it or even slow down. life happens.

It gets overwhelming sometimes, life, and it's because each day flies by and soon the days are blending into each other and before we know it time has gone by and everything is different than it was a year ago.

Sometimes I close my eyes, and I can feel the feelings that I felt last summer, or the summer before... and then I ache for those feelings. Not because I want to go back, and not because I want to change anything, but because I feel like we never get to mourn those feelings being lost - because they get lost in a blur and we don't notice they are gone until it is too late.

It is such a weird feeling, aching for your past - because it doesn't always mean that you WANT to go back. You just want to grasp everything as it was ONE last time and give it a proper goodbye.

I think thats why we have broken hearts and why we get sad a lot. Because a lot of the time we don't have reason, really, and a lot of the time things are really going well for us.. and yet we just ache. We get overwhelmed with lost emotions and we can't explain it and we frustrate ourselves.

It happens to me all the time, anyway.

But what I try to do, and what I recommend you all try if you find yourself spiralling into your past, is to just take a moment (maybe a long moment) and just remember what it was about that summer, or those feelings, and why things are the way they are now. Stop thinking about what you would do different or what life would be like if nothing ever changed, just logically play it out and be thankful for the person you are right now. in this exact moment. just be.

and be happy that you can just be.

Trust YO Gut

We all believe our gut when it tells us we are hungry, so why wouldn't we believe it when it's giving us a bad feeling?

I believe the gut feeling because even if it isn't scientific, it means that something is happening that doesn't make you feel comfortable - so uncomfortable that it actually gives you stomach flutters. That isn't normal. A reaction like that SCREAMS don't do it... but most of us ignore our gut when it is screaming at us!

I decided a while ago about a career choice that I thought was very smart. 100% job guarantee after graduation and good pay and great hours..... but...... I never felt great about it. I knew it was practical and I should be excited and happy, but I wasn't, something in my gut was telling me NO!

And I let my gut scream at me for months, and it was really bringing me down because my future was like this dark and looming place that I didn't want to be a part of. Not good, right?

So finally I was like "yo gut, imma listen to you" and as soon as I told people I didn't feel right about it so many people were like "yeah you shouldn't do that if you don't feel good about it" and it wasn't even that I wasn't feeling good about it... I was feeling downright bad about it. If that's not saying something I don't know what is.

I don't think we need to rely on our guts, ultimately our brains are what processes everything and if logic rules out the gut then so be it! but maybe we just need to trust it more often. So give your gut a little credit now and again... It might just save you!

"OMG YOUR SKIN IS SO SOFT"

This is a comment/compliment that I get ALL THE TIME. Not just every once in a while like "you have really straight teeth" or "I like your hair".. but often. As often as people come into contact with my skin anyway.

And BELIEVE IT OR NOT, it is because my skin is super soft, softer than the average person's anyway (I assume, otherwise, why would people be making such a big deal - right?)

But the thing is, when I get this comment/compliment (I can't decide which it is) people act like it is so shocking that I, or anyone, could have skin this soft. But here's the thing. YOU CAN. And I am here to tell you HOW!

Ready?

Okay...

My secret to soft skin is.....

MOISTURIZING

lol duh. but seriously, that's all there is to it. It always amazes me how shocked people are because it is just so obvious that its only because I moisturize like a mo-fo and thus have soft skin like a mo-fo. I moisturize about 2 times a day - my hands get the 10+ treatment and my feet are often ignored because they are gross seeing as they are feet.

But I don't use anything special, just your regular bath and body words triple moisture cream or the body shop's body butters. Really, as long as you moisturize often - it doesn't matter what kind you use, you will have COMMENT/COMPLIMENT worthy skin. I promise you. Also, the lotion, if chosen correctly, can double as a perfume replacement. It is usually much milder than actual perfume and mixes with your natural scent and leaves people want more! Mmm!

But back to soft skin...If you want to go the extra mile you can exfoliate all the dead stuff off, but you really dont have to even do that if you shower with a loofa!

No tricks. No gimmicks. Just lotion. And lots of it.

Happy Moisturizing!
