society makes us ugly

I have posted a picture with these words before, but they really do ring true for me. There is nothing more sad then seeing how society has destroyed the confidence of teenagers (among so many other things).

But this one rings especially true, and has become a huge problem.

Diets.

How many of you have been on a diet? It is almost impossible to think of someone who hasn't been on one. Right? Everyone has. We ALL worry about not being skinny enough, or having a soft tummy, or looking fat in a pair of pants, or simply just feeling super guilty after eating too much kraft dinner.. Even if you are a boy, I bet you have still wished you were more buff, or had better abs, or maybe you felt guilty for not hitting the gym as often as you should. No matter who you are, you are never immune to the pressures of perfection.

Why do we have this unrealistic desire to be perfect?

Society.

Society killed the teenager. It ruined all perceptions of normal and healthy. Society puts beauty on a pedestal - and us mere mortals are supposed to do whatever we can do to reach this impossibly high standard.

Even MODELS aren't skinny enough thanks to the standards put out there by the media. Photoshop is the worrrrrst. Look at this, she was equally (if not more) beautiful in the first picture. There was no need to make her any thinner.

I just feel so sad for girls, because I personally know what it is like to feel like I am not good enough. I know how it feels to look in the mirror and see someone who isn't you in the reflection - and absolutely HATING that version of you... wanting to do ANYTHING to change it to the person you want to see... but never reaching that goal, because no matter how much weight you lose or how toned you get - it won't be enough. You will NEVER be happy if you try to reach societies standards. It is like running on a treadmill, you put all this work into it, but you never seem to go anywhere. It's not fair.

And, this doesn't mean don't take care of your health, because you only have one body - so you want to take care of it and eat balanced meals and maintain exercise... but it just means that you need to not worry so much about being a size 2. Eat the foods you like! Do the things you like! Don't obsess over it. It is okay to indulge once in a while.

I just want everyone to feel beautiful. When you feel beautiful, you look beautiful. Screw society. Let's start a revolution where we legitimately love our bodies, and treat them with the respect they deserve. Do you know how much work your body does every single day just to keep you alive? The best way you can thank your body is by treating it with the nutrients it needs. But most importantly, never call it ugly.

Remember: love is louder than the pressure to be perfect.
