kelsey's guide to an awesome halloween

Follow these 15 simple steps,
and prepare yourselves for the best halloween of your LIVES!

1. Who cares about being sexy? Not anyone, that's who. Being sexy on halloween is totally overrated. It is all about being AWESOME.

2. In terms of costume design: the furrier the costume, the better. (Seriously ladies, take my word on this one... Guys just eat that shiz up. If you are single, you might not be after halloween if you a rock a furry outfit. Just sayin'.)

3. Halloween themed jokes are a MUST

examples for those of us (not me) who are less hilariously gifted:

What is a Mummie's favorite type of music?

Do zombies eat popcorn with their fingers?
-No, they eat the fingers separately...

What is Dracula's favorite kind of coffee?

Knock, Knock
-Who's there?
-Olive who?
Olive Halloween!

4. If you aren't comfortable not dressing slutty/sexy. then at least add some flair of humor or creativity into your costume. Like, who wants to be a sexy nurse? Where is the fun in that... But a sexy ZOMBIE nurse? Way cooler.

5. If you are guys: never underestimate the power of group costumes. Seriously. (see picture)

6. If you don't want kids to come to your door asking for candy, don't be a jerk and deny them. Put a little bucket filled with candy on your front porch that says "TOBY FROM PARANORMAL ACTIVITY WILL COME AND KILL YOUR PARENTS IF YOU TAKE MORE THAN 2 CANDIES." Works like a charm.

7. Speaking of candy, this is a weekend where you are not too old for individually wrapped candy treats. Enjoy them.

8. If you aren't comfortable not being slutty/sexy, and not willing to be creative, being simply slutty and sexy is TOTALLY cool and will suffice.

9. Carving pumpkins is such a delight. It is a lot harder than you would imagine, so prepare yourself for that. Also, plan ahead when carving a pumpkin - you don't want to pull a Kelsey and entire carve out the shape you were trying to create and end up with a giant hole.

10. If you screw up your pumpkin, nails or toothpicks work wonders to put it back together.

11. Get work done BEFORE you go out, because a post Halloween candy/alcohol hangover is the last thing you need when trying to get work done.

12. All rules of april fools apply on halloween in my world. Get your prankin' on.

12. Halloween is all about being spooky, not evil.

-Spooky: Childhood pranks/immature jokes (ie hiding in a closet, walking menacingly)

-Evil: Walking into a room and kicking over a table and setting fire to the house, while laughing evil (ie, like Wario) the entire time.

13. Remember: costumes can be multi-purpose. One minute you can be a migrant worker/mexican, and the next: a rice farmer! Like I said, creativity is KEY.

14. Scary movie marathons are critical. But if you are too scared, halloween themed movies are pretty great too (there are some classics out there, that will totally bring back awesome childhood movies - like ernest scared stupid, or the exorcist)

15. Be safe. But way more importantly: HAVE FUN!

Happy Halloween!

“One thing is certain, whatever it is we’re trying to hide, we’re never ready for that moment when the truth gets naked.

That’s the problem with secrets, like misery, they love company.

They pile up and up until they take over everything... until you don’t have room for anything else.

The thing people forget is how good it can feel when you finally set secrets free.

Whether good or bad,
at least they’re out in the open... like it or not.

And once your secrets are out in the open, you don’t have to hide behind them anymore.

The problem with secrets is:
even when you think you’re in control, you’re not.

“I don’t let anyone’s insecurities, emotions, or opinions bother me.

I know that if I am happy...

that’s all that matters to me.

And it’s okay to be selfish like that sometimes, when it comes to your well-being.

Do what makes you happy, and don’t care what others think.”

The Pale Blue Dot

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”

Avicii vs Journey - Dont Stop the LEVELS

This has easily become my new go-to jam.

Levels mixes up so well with almost every song, but Don't Stop Believing is a classic jam... and with levels mixed in?

Just... Ahhhh!

Diet Truth

this is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time

Kind of a depressing title, but it is true.

I am facing a really sad time in my life, people I love very dearly are becoming very sick (young and old) and that kind of tragedy really makes you think. And it really drills in the idea that you never know what is coming up in your life.

This is your life, what happens in it is up to you.

If you don't like what is thrown at you, you can either change it, or you can let it ruin you. Like I said, it is up to you.

As my life goes on, one thing has become more sure - that time is never sure.

You honestly never know what comes next. Good or bad. You really don't know. You can plan for a change, but you can never actually prepare yourself for it.

People die.

Every second of every day. One day they can be perfectly fine, but you never realize how quickly that can change.

We live in a world where we feel so safe (and how lucky are we because of that).. but this feeling of safety has us forgetting that life really isn't set in stone for us.

If you're like me, you may find yourself thinking that nothing bad is ever going to happen to you, or the ones you love. But that isn't true, that is so unrealistic to believe. Each day we face so many risk factors.

So many.

So many that if you sit down and really give it a hard thought, you may never want to leave the comfort of your home again.

As sad and as scary as it is, it's a reality check: we need to live our lives. And we need to live them as bad-assly as we possibly can.

Stop simply dreaming, and start believing in the power of your dreams. Start making those dreams reality.

Forgive your friends. Everyone makes mistakes, we ourselves make mistakes too, and if your friends are willing to admit that, then they deserve a second chance.

However, we also need to get rid of all the people and things that set us back in life. Sometimes it takes more courage to NOT forgive someone, to not let them back in our lives, because sometimes a "friend" may just bring you down over and over, and that is not fair for yourself.

Fall for someone, really hard, and let the entire world know. Stop being afraid to fall. Just go for it. What is the worst thing that can happen? And is it really worse than never going for it and never knowing what could have been?

Have fun. Sing in public, dance like an idiot, laugh with no hesitations.

SMILE. At anyone. At everyone.

Stop living in fear that you will be judged. Tell people what is on your mind, and never be afraid to express your opinion. You deserve to be heard.

Try new things, new foods, new styles, new hair-dos.

Be the best you that you can be.

Because if life suddenly throws you a curveball (which you may not even see coming), the last thing you want to do is look at your life with "what ifs" or regrets. No one wants to look at their life and say "Man, I really screwed that up."

Despite the tragedies me and my family are facing, it is a really important less on the fragile nature of life. It makes you really appreciate things that maybe you never appreciated before. When you recognize that life is fragile, you recognize the impact of everything you do. You want to leave behind a positive impact, don't you? It is never too early to start that.

This is your life, and it is ending one minute at a time.

Don't You Ever Grow Up

I'm afraid to grow up:
Sometimes I look at the past and at my childhood,
And I get scared that life is never going to be:
As beautiful. As carefree. Or as simple as it once was.

I remember so many things about being a child:

- Getting my mom to draw cat whiskers on my face to go to school, with no fear of being ostracized, and just being so happy that for one day, because I got to be a friggen cat!
- Appreciating the smallest things that life had to offer me, like skating in the winter (loving the ice rink so much I literally had to kiss it goodbye)
- Trying so hard to win the approval of my other brother's affection
- Drawing boogers on every single picture I ever drew
- Laughing so hard. At everything. Seriously, everything.
(sidenote: did you know, on average a child laughs 150 times a day? Whereas we only laugh about 5 times, and that's on a good day.)
- Trusting my deepest darkest secrets with anyone who could listen, because back then, I really believed that everyone had so much good in them.

But despite all these memories, what I remember the most was wanting to grow up. Now here I am. In this awkward middle stage, almost ready to take the next step into adulthood. But not quite ready yet, because I still ache for the carefree simpleness of youth.

Ironic, huh?

Growing up is hard. There is no way to get around that. We are allowed to ache for the past, but we can't stop living because of it. Let's face the future and all it has to offer head on.

Let's do this: Let's grow up.

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up.
Just stay this little.
Don't you ever grow up...
It could stay this simple.
No one's ever burned you.
Nothing's ever left you scarred.
And even though you want to:
just try to never grow up
Remember the footsteps,
Remember the words said.
And all your little brother's favorite songs.
I just realized everything I have
is someday gonna be gone.

Long Live

I said remember this moment, in the back of my mind: the time we stood with our shaking hands, the crowds and stands went wild.. We were the Kings and the Queens, and they read off our names.

The night you danced like you knew our lives would never be the same. You held your head like a hero on a history book page. It was the end of a decade, but the start of an age.

Long live the walls we crashed through, how the kingdom lights shined just for me and you.
I was screaming long live, all the magic we made.. and bring on all the pretenders

One day we will be remembered.

Hold on to spinning around.
Confetti falls to the ground.
May these memories break our fall.

Will you take a moment, promise me this:
That you'll stand by me forever, but if god forbid fate should step in and force us into a goodbye.. if you have children some day.. when they point to the pictures - please tell them my name.

Long live.

I love a lot of animals much more than I love humans. I think it has something to do with their innocence. And the way they are always so willing to forgive and just do anything to get your love and your attention. Animals are friends.

This post has no point, other than me asking you all to PLEASE treat those animals with the love and respect that they treat you with. They would do anything for you (anything that is within their skill sets) so why wouldn't you do the same for them?

I guess another point is that I really want to show off how cute me and my animals are!

Boo yeah!

Once you get past the piss-blonde hair, you can SEE the love.

puppy cuddles are the best kind of cuddles

and of course, this is the kind of love that never dies.

drunk kitty kuddles are kute too

He may be old. But he still gets luv.

forcing laughter, faking smiles

There is a sad hopefulness in a broken smile but only yf you look closely enough. You may even be able to see the damage a person feels, the damage they are trying so hard to hide. That hopeful, sad, beautiful and captivating smile. And you just know that that is the kind of smile that is going to take time to fix. It is possible to be happy and sad at the same time. It really is. And despite how wonderful and fabulous life can be, it can still get you down.

But as I grow older (which I do, every single day) I try to take an objective look at life. Sure, maybe today I am feeling lethargic, and YES I know that people have it worse than I do, but this is my life.

Why would I waste time and wallow around and prevent myself from making a happier and brighter future?

One thing I value more than anything, is time. I have come to realize that there is simply never enough of it. We can learn to manage it, and we can find ways to save time.. but really, at the end of the day - we never want it to be the end of the day. We always find ourselves wishing for that extra hour, or extra time to do this or do that or call him or email her...

So, why waste my precious time even further by being down on myself? Or by allowing the heat of life to win? Or by forcing laughter and faking smiles...

You have the power to change your life.

You have the power to be happy.

Maybe you are broke, but you are not broken.

And sure, maybe because of this you have a slightly broken smile, but you have the power to use time to your ADVANTAGE (for once) and let that smile fix itself.

Realistically now, how could that smile ever be fixed if you do not put any active effort into it? If you spend your time being miserable and wallowing in the past, that smile will only get more broken. And eventually, you'll go from having a broken smile to no smile at all.

But if you let life happen, and embrace what it offers you with open arms - guaranteed that smile will fix itself, and more importantly, your insides will fix along with it. You gotta go through some tough things to find who you are. These things may shape you, and maybe they will hurt you along the way, but they cannot break you. Those feelings are temporary - where happiness can be forever.

Words cannot possibly describe the liberating feeling you will feel when you smile, and you can feel it radiate from inside out.

You have the power to liberate yourself of negativity and spread love. Happiness is more contagious than H1N1, I swear.

Stay strong & radiate love.

Beauty is the enemy. We try to conquer not feeling beautiful all our lives. It's a battle that can't be won. There's no definition of beauty. The only way to achieve beauty is to feel it from inside without breaking down into individual physical attributes”
