the past

sometimes the past just slaps you riiiiight in the face. and how you deal with it shapes you.

the past is everything, and yet it seems to hold some of us back. not letting us take advantage of the present and therefore, the future.

Why bother getting stuck in the past and not moving forward in life, when you can focus on your present? Which, coincidentally, would never have been possible without some sort of past.

the people with the worst pasts have the potential to have the best futures. we live, and some of us learn. you cannot change the past. as much as you want to move forward and get away from it... there will be a time where something happens, and it just brings the memories of the past back and remind you of the trials and tribulations you went through.

accept that. acknowledge it. and move the fuck on.

let the past be a part of your life. just do not let it be your whole life.

let your past make you better, not bitter.

Hold On

An empty room can be so loud, there's too many tears to drown them out.

Hold on.

When you love someone, and they break your heart: don’t give up on love.

Have faith, restart.

Just hold on.

That Girl

She stands there.

Her insecurities getting the best of her; like always. The pain reminding her of the girl she is.

The girl she hates.

She stands...

Thinking about her life:

Where she has gone..

Her regrets..

She wants to change.

She tries.

But she slips back.

She wants to be normal.

She's afraid that she might walk this broken road alone, forever.

She pretends that girl is someone else. All the while, that girl is her.

That girl is me.

Tattoo #6

Yes.... That is Paco's paw print. I have a chinchilla inspired tattoo. I got his paw print inked the other day, with the intention of getting it tattooed on me. my closest of friends know that this is something I have talked about doing for some time - and I decided, why not. Worst case, people think it looks like some freckles. But I know, it symbolizes my baby boy - my friend Paco. Who will hopefully be in my life for 10-15 more years <3 But honestly. It was hilarious getting it done. We did my first tattoo, which took about 30 mins (AND KILLED) and then she set the ink up to get this one done... and we joked around "damm kelsey, you should have downloaded a movie" "or at least brought a magazine!" and she went, started tattooing for about 45 seconds. Leaned back. And burst out laughing. She was done. hahahahhaha. we laughed so hard. Im really happy with how it looks though. Its definitely unique and I am proud to have it! 6 Tattoos & Counting! daily LOL

These things will change.

Can you feel it now?

These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down.

It's a revolution.

The time will come for us to finally win.

You never know where life is going to take you. I had no idea that I would be at this place in my life so soon, this happy and confident 21 year old girl. Looking at my past year, I went through a lot - and as much as I wanted to give up and feel like I was going to crumple, I didn't.

Reflecting on that all, I am now so grateful for all the struggles I went through, because without them, I would never have learned those difficult life lessons. Life is all about the moments, and how you deal with them.

You have to have faith that things will change. You may feel like the underdog for so long, and feel like every day you have to fight for a smile. I know, it really is hard to fight when the fight isn't fair. But even though it isn't fair, I promise you, it is worth it.

Embrace every single day.

It doesn't matter if you don't know where you're going, as long as you're going forward.

We'll stand up as champions tonight.

Find the time:

The time to watch a sunset.

The time to read.

To smell the flowers.

To paint your dreams.

To realize that life goes on.

To have coffee with a friend.

To call a relative.

And, above all, you need to find the time to do absolutely nothing for a little while.

Summer Lovin'

This summer is flying by.

Only about 1 month left, and its back to life as normal. Not that normal isn't good, I cannot WAIT to get back to Guelph... but, still, I cannot believe it is almost August.

As relaxing as summer is supposed to be, this summer has been a busy one. Working full time is amazing, but it is definitely time consuming. I come home exhausted (emotionally and physically) and just want to plop myself in front of the tv and lounge.

Despite those feelings, I have gone out and had myself an amazing summer - with amazing friends. Boating, pool parties, bbqs, a few drinks and BIG BROTHER have made for a great time. And only more is to come!

Just checking in with everyone, really... and I hope everyone's summer is as happy as mine is!

“I don’t let anyone’s insecurities, emotions, or opinions bother me. I know that if I am happy, that’s all that matters to me. And it’s okay to be selfish like that sometimes when it comes to your well-being. Do what makes you happy, and don’t care what others think.”

Look For The Girl With The Broken Smile

I think the strongest, and saddest, people in the world are the people who hide behind their smiles. The people who smile away their realities. You look at them, and they look happy - genuinely happy. But you never know what kind of struggle is taking place behind that smile.

Maybe someone's laughter is a cry for help..

Or a precious smile is a symbol of their insecurities..

You just can never know what is really going on behind a beautiful smile.

So do not limit your kindness... Because you never know who needs it.

I am going to sign off with one of my favourite quotes of all time:

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.

Don't do meth, kids.

If my world were to cave in tomorrow:

I would look back on all the pleasures, excitements

and worth-whilenesses I have been lucky enough to have had.

Not the sadness.

Not my miscarriages.

But the joy of everything else.

It will have been enough.

daily LOL: Harry Potter Style

1. I am obsessed with painting my nails, I probably do it every other day.

2. Justin Bieber. That is all. I have more love and respect for the kid than I could ever sum up in words. It doesn't even bother me when people diss him, because I know they just are too immature to accept that the kid has talent. Lots of it.

3. I've only had a bloody nose once. It was because Brooke shoved her finger up my nose when I was like, 6.

4. I can only drink vodka (well, beers too) but if I drink anything else... kelsey = sloppy.

5. I hate religion. Period.

6. I love animals too much, to the point where it gets in the way of my life. Have you heard the duck story? Yeeeeah.

7. I can't tell if I have the worst luck ever, or the best luck ever. Crazy stuff happens to me, but nothing too seriously bad has ever come from it. Good luck/Bad luck? I just don't knowwwww.

8. My favourite food right now are hot dogs with hot peppers on them.

9. I am also on a huuuuge slurpee binge.

10. I love going to the gym. I haven't been in a while, but I am about to go back and whip my body back into shape.

11. I give off terrrrrible first impressions. Especially towards girls. No one really likes me, unless they know me. Which is fine, because if they want to pre-judge me and hate me, without giving me a chance - why would I want that person as a friend?

12. I am becoming an expert on prescription drugs.

13. I have a really good phone sex voice. To the point where I was seriously considering being a phone sex operator one year.

14. My puppies are my best friends.

15. I get really nervous and embarrassed sometimes when I am alone. Don't know why, because I am pretty confident. I just, do.

16. I'm probably the biggest sleepy head you will ever meet.

17. I eat a ridiculous amount of fruit.

18. I've come to the realization that I might be shallow when it comes to finding boys. There are so many wonderful people out there, but I seem to always pick the beautiful, but douchey, ones.

19. I am a math wizard.

20. I wish I was a wizard wizard.

21. I can wake up and make it to work within 17 minutes. But Brooke hates it when I do that.

22. At this point, driving scares me. So much so that I gave away my Taylor Swift tickets for fear of driving to Toronto.

23. I find it emotionally cleansing to listen to enchanted on repeat while taking a long shower.

24. My stomach sucks. I take a prescription antacid, and yet, I can no longer tolerate any type of pain killers. Tomato products also bother my stomach.

25. I think I may be a slight hypochondriac. That comes from growing up with a doctor and seeing the healthiest people become the sickest people in a matter of days.

26. Also, working at a doctors office I see life kick the shit out of people on a daily basis. But what amazes me, is that it is never these patients that are miserable and complain - they always have the best spirits. It just really puts things into perspective for me.

27. Missing someone is a feeling that is hard to get over for me. I grieve for a lot of people.

28. I am getting not one, but TWO, new tattoos this summer. Both mean a crazy lot to me. I can't wait to surprise you all.

29. Everything I own, is partially chewed by Paco. This includes my glasses.

30. Did I mention my nail obsession? Because right now I am freaking out because 3 of the 10 nails got smushed when opening Paco's cage.

31. My co-worker calls me "lumpy".

32. Ever since I was a little girl, my mom has called me Lulu Lettuce.

33. I have no problem turning down a piece of cake. Sweets really don't do it for me. But if you offered me a taco? I would never be able to say no.

34. I've grown up a lot this year. I still do "foolish" things, but my mind is in a different place. I look back at some of the things I did last year with nothing but "WTFs" running through my head.

35. I love my blog. It gets about 200 hits a day, which is absolutely incredible. I have stumbleupon to thank for that.

36. Thus far, I am extremely disappointed with all the summer hit songs for 2011. Except for give me everything. I love that song. I will never get tired of that song.

37. I come up with weird scenarios that I think would be hilarious in my head alllll the time, but I've stopped sharing them with people - because they think I am crazy. Like this one, where I just think in an awkward situation.. it would be sweet if I could just pop out a beard. Awkwardness = OVER.

38. There are only a few movies I can watch repeatedly and never get tired of: Moulin Rouge & Never Say Never

39. I wish I was a good singer.

40. I am petrified of bees/hornets/wasps.

Things I've Learned While Growing Up

Just some wisdom I have acquired over the years:

1. A smile never hurts anyone. It is amazing to see the power of a smile. There are a lot of lonely people in the world, and sometimes all they need is a friendly smile to make their days.

2. Complaining will not make you better or get you anywhere. And most of the time, it makes you worse. If you are dwelling on your problem, it will consume you. Accept that it exists, and find a way to get around it. You will be amazed at the results. This goes for illnesses too. Just, don't complain - it does not get you any where any faster.

3. People are selfish. It is very rare that a person is not looking out for him/herself before others. Trust is not something you should put into a person very quickly. People are out for themselves, and generally have no problem hurting you to get to what they want.

4. It is not what happens to you that defines who you are. It is how you react to it.

5. Do not over complicate your life. Appreciate the small things. Remember the days in our childhoods where the smallest things would make us happy? Why don't those things make us happy anymore? Take some time, and reflect on the small things - because those are usually the best things. The simple things.

6. Love who you are. Because if you don't love yourself, how can you expect anyone else to?

7. Some people just do not grow up. As you grow up and find yourself, you will find that some of your closest friends do not grow up alongside you. This is just a part of life. People grow apart. You will always have a special place in each others hearts.

8. Alone time is completely and utterly necessary for happiness.

9. Do what makes you happy, as long as you do not hurt anyone in the process. If someone makes fun of you for doing what makes you happy, who cares? You're doing it for you, not for them.

10. As illogical as it is, karma happens.

11. There is nothing wrong with not knowing what you want to do with your life... as long as you keep moving forward. Standing still will get you nowhere, and just makes you more confused. Keep on truckin' on, kids.

Demi Lovato: Skyscraper

"As the world knows, I kind of went through a bunch this year."

I don't why I have never talked about Demi on here before, Demi is an incredible girl and I think she is probably the best role model out there. Sure, she has had serious problems, but instead of covering them up - she let them out there to show that she is not invincible (and that NO ONE is).

Demi Lovato is so real. Her struggles are struggles that so many girls go through, in silence, and Demi Lovato is letting the world know that it is OKAY to get help.

She looks amazing, and happier than ever. And I mean happy. Truly happy. Not just on the outside either - you can really tell that she is happy inside out.

How many of us have put on a happy face, when really we were suffering on the inside? Just know, that no matter how low your low is: it gets better. It always gets better.

Love is louder than the pressure to be perfect.

Please watch this interview with Ryan Seacrest. She is such an inspiration to girls everywhere. So brave to let the world know that she is not perfect - and yet is she happier than ever. And if you don't have that kind of time.. at least listen to the amazing and powerful song, skyscraper.

How amazing is she/the song?

Belieber 4 Lyfe

We would make beautiful large headed babies.

Been a Belieber before you guys even heard of the kid.
Justin is more than just a teen sensation to me.

Justin is a forever story.

If he wants it, he is here to stay.

Like they say in the movie, I wouldn't bet against Justin. And I certainly wouldn't bet against his team. His support system is huge. And his fan base is huge, and they would do anything for him.

The Lovely Bones

I am an avid reader. When I have time, there is nothing that I love more than sitting down and getting engulfed in a book. I don't care if it is light or girl, or deep and heavy. If it's a good book, I will read it. Generally, if I love the book: I WILL watch the movie, but I never like the movie as much as the book.
With the book, it is so easy to let your imagination go wild and paint the perfect picture, and the actors in the movies never seem to match up.

That is always the case. Always. Except when it comes to The Lovely Bones.

I am currently 25 minutes in, and already full of chills and tears. This movie went above and beyond the book - and took the picture I had in my head, and made it so much better.

For those of you who don't know the story, it is about a 14 year old girl, Susie, who is lured away by a neighbor, and is tragically murdered. She was murdered before she had a chance to really know who she was... she was just starting to figure things out when her life was stolen away from her. But that is only the start.

The rest of the movie focuses on catching the murdered, and Susie's realization that she is dead - and how to cope with that. The emotion seen in that girl is so powerful. This movie fills me with such strong feelings, it is hard to describe.

This sounds cheesy, but this is one of the only movies that has ever really just moved me. It makes me think, it makes me sad, and it simply just makes me feel. It scares me too.

I think this movie is amazing. And, you should all watch it. I know its about 2 years old.. so, most of you have seen it. But I could watch it over and over and over again.

There's Not Enough Time

You never know the biggest day of your life is going to be the biggest. The days you think are going to be big ones.. they are never as big as you make them out to be in your head.

It’s the regular days, the ones that start out normal, those are the days that end up being the biggest.

You don’t recognize the biggest day of your life, not until you’re right in the middle of it.

The day to commit to something or someone.

The day you get your heart broken.

The day you meet your soul mate.

The day you realize there’s not enough time because you wanna live forever.

Those are the biggest days...

The perfect days...

You know?

Daily Drool

Today's daily drool brought to you by:

Ryan *sexy pants* Reynolds

The Beatles: Tattoo Inspirations?

It is common knowledge that I am a Beatles freak. When I was younger, I didn't listen to all the pop like backstreet boys or n'sync... I was in love, seriously in love, with the Beatles. Imagine my love for the Jonas Brothers and multiply it by a million, and that's the range of my love for the Beatles. I lived and breathed Beatles.

So naturally, it made sense that I got a tattoo dedicated to a Beatle. My first tattoo was inspired by George Harrison - using his dying words "love one another". Such a wise way to live, and I find it very inspiring and emotional.

And I was happy to have 1/4 of my tattoos inspired from the Beatles. However, I just found out that my tattoo dedicated to Millie, is also a John Lennon quote.

I had no idea, and here's how it happened: one of my friends died when I was 16... and it was really impossible... no quote seemed to help ease the pain, so when we were decorating our shirts for redfeather that we were dedicating to him - I could not think of any quotes I wanted to put on my shirt. So I asked my mom, and she told me a wonderful phrase:

"Count your life by smiles, not tears, you made me smile"

It summed everything up perfectly.. Because through all the pain and all the hurt, you want to remember all the smiles that were shared, and all the happiness they brought you.

When my dog Millie died, a part of me died too.. And yet, after 2 and a half years, this was the phrase that I could think of when trying to cheer myself up. It only seemed natural to get it tattooed on me and dedicated for millie. I added on "ill forever miss you" and the date of Millie's death - and I thought it was perfect.

I have had that tattoo for 2 years, and all this time I have just thought it was a common phrase, or a saying that my mom conjured. Until I was looking up John Lennon quotes, that is... and I found this:

"Count your life by smiles, not tears." - John Lennon

How amazing and perfect is that? Without even trying to, I have 2/4 tattoos relating to the beatles. And relating to them in a way that is so much more than symbolizing a band. It symbolizes all sorts of love, and harmony and peace in my life..

I love The Beatles.

A Little Bit Longer

I love/respect/miss Nicholas Jerry Jonas with every ounce of my being. This is his speech before his song a little bit longer - written about his struggles with diabetes (and life), which you can listen to here.

What an inspiration:

"You know sometimes life brings out its complications and some hardships, but you know, it’s how we deal with them that counts.

And I know that each and every single one of you in this audience tonight have been through a hard time in your life before, right? I know that each and every one of you have felt, at one point, like you couldn’t go on.

But then you found hope. There’s always some way to find hope. Remember that....

There was a time in my life when I got diagnosed with diabetes, and I thought that I’m not gonna be able to live my dream, getting to do what I wanna do. That was three years ago. And I can say, today, that I played for 50,000 people in Toronto.

That happened ’cause I found hope. How many of you people in this audience tonight need to find hope? How many of you need to find a friend? And how many of you need to feel some peace? Well like I said, that’s what this song is about.

And tonight, this song- this song is for you. This song is for every broken heart tonight, and for every broken dream, for every high and for every low. Don’t ever forget it. Now, what I want you to do now is, if you know the words to this song, I want you to sing with all your heart and with all your soul.

‘Cause something happens when 50,000 people in Toronto come together and sing a song.

Now this song is for this generation, and this generation is gonna sing it out!"

-Nick Jonas

Okay. Bedbugs are seriously scary.

They can be in your bed for months, feeding on you, and you won't even notice. The other day, a patient called in and had a list a symptoms - but refused to leave her house because she had bedbugs..... and didn't want to spread them?

But, that reminded me of the greatest youtube video in existence: Matthew's rant on bedbugs. "I'm just trying to get by....."

Bubble Bath

Who doesn't love a good bubble bath? I know when it comes to nail polish, OPI's bubble bath has become my absolutely favourite.
This is a gorgeous light pink, that looks natural, and yet gorgeous. I wore it on the weekend, and I literally could not stop looking at my nails. It applies wonderfully, and does not even require a top coat. The glaze it has is perfect.

This polish is perfect for any occasion. Seriously. My sister had a manicure and came home with this colour for her graduation, and we are both HOOKED.

This colour is perfect for those of us who have a giant collection, but I also think any girl needs a pretty pale pink in their nail collection.

I seem to be having terrible luck lately. As most of you know, I was in a car accident two weeks ago - which sucked/sucks majorly. And then, yesterday, we were lost at sea!

We were at my friend's house in Grand Bend, and her dad was taking us for a quick boat ride - because you could tell a storm was approaching. On the way back I look at the clouds and they just start spinning. Literally spinning. And, honestly, it was really cool.

Then it started to get darker, and the water turned aqua/green, and that was also really cool (and really pretty). Then, all of a sudden a black cloud just emerged - and within 30 seconds we were in the middle of a storm, on a boat.

It was the scariest thing in my life. Us girls just had to sit on the boat floor in the back of the boat - and we were getting whipped around - and splashed like crazy. The boys all stood at the front, and tried to help her dad out, but you could not see A THING. Sheet lightening covered the sky. We were scared shitless.

Luckily, we made it to the harbor and someone docked the boat to theirs, and we got off in town.

In retrospect, it was a really crazy experience. And a cool one. I hate to say that it was a cool experience, because that is how people die. You hear stories of people being stuck out on their boats in a storm, and people going over board and drowning.

Im just really happy we are okay. But now I am thinking that my luck may be running out.....

Speak Now

I think we could all learn a lot from Taylor Swift:

"Real life is a funny thing you know.

In real life saying the right thing, at the right moment is beyond crucial. So crucial in fact, that most of us start to hesitate, for fear of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

But lately what I’ve began to fear more than that, is letting the moment pass without saying anything. I think you deserve to look back on your life without this chorus of resounding voices saying:

'I could have but it’s too late now.'

So there’s a time for silent, and there a time for waiting your turn.

But if you know how you feel, and you so clearly know what you need to say.
You’ll know it.

I don’t think you should wait.
I think you should speak now."
